UserVoice is the pioneer, but has a lot of baggage
UserVoice was founded in 2008. It was the pioneer for getting customer feedback and it did a lot to develop the space for alternatives like Feature Upvote to thrive. But over the years, it has lost its touch.
“There are a lot of features we don’t use which sometimes makes the cost a little high for what we are using it for.”
Verified Capterra Review
Enterprise-level pricing
UserVoice starts at $699/month but you don’t get much at this price. It focuses on Fortune 50 companies and leaves out 99% of companies.
Burdened by complexity
UserVoice is complex because it’s rich in features, but it is also slow, visually cluttered, and not really intuitive.
A lot of features, yet missing key ones
Because UserVoice focuses on companies that are not like yours, they’ve built features you won’t use and have skipped core features you absolutely want.
More happy customersI was looking for a UserVoice alternative that wasn’t crazy expensive and complex. Then I ran across Feature Upvote. You can tell it’s been built by someone with an appreciation for simplicity. It’s a great tool – it does one thing well and it’s not ridiculously priced.

🏷️ Pricing: UserVoice vs Feature Upvote

Pricing | $99/mo | $699/mo | $899/mo | $1349/mo |

Integrations | Unlimited | 3/8 | 3/8 | 6/8 |

Voting on behalf of users | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Direct user feedback & upvotes | Yes | No | Yes | Yes |
Public boards | Yes | No | Yes | Yes |
Status updates | Yes | No | Yes | Yes |
UserVoice’s pricing easily gets above $1000/month
UserVoice starts at $699/month which is already a hefty price tag.
But for that price you don’t get the web portal (public boards).
What does that mean?
Users can’t provide feedback or upvotes directly.
So a fair comparison would be to compare Feature Upvote with UserVoice Pro plan that starts at $899/month.
They are also hiding what integrations are included.
We have found them by going through their knowledge base and finding that a lot of integrations aren’t even in the Pro plan (more about it below).
There might be other limitations we’re not aware of.
Another problem with UserVoice pricing: the free trial is only 14 days which is too short to have time to test everything.
Everything is included in Feature Upvote Standard plan
Feature Upvote costs 10x less and still provides everything you need:
- Public boards: Anyone can see the suggestion board as well as post, comment, and upvote.
- Status updates: when you change the status of a suggestion, it sends an email to all the contributors (the poster, commenters, and upvoters).
- Unlimited contributors: end users providing feedback
- Unlimited seats: you can invite everyone in your company if you want. You’re not limited to just a handful of admins.
- Unlimited integrations: you’re not limited to just a few integrations, you can use all the integrations we have.
- And all the essentials: responsive design, custom CSS, custom domain names, custom statuses, spam detection, single-sign on (SSO), GDPR compliance, priority support, etc.

🧶 UserVoice prioritizes features over UX
UserVoice has a lot of features.
Even world-class UX designers wouldn’t be able to keep the experience intuitive with so many features.
It’s no wonder UserVoice is heavily criticized for its complexity and poor UX.
It’s not even us that is saying that, but their own customers:
“We were constantly struggling to get it to work properly in the beginning. I thought the set up was horribly confusing and time consuming.”
Verified Capterra Review
“The product backend is quite outdated in UX and over the years it becomes more complex (at least for the size of my company). I suppose this is due to a switch on the types of customers UserVoice targets now (Microsoft-like).”
Verified Capterra Review
To make sure these reviews were not outdated — and to make a true comparison — we have tested UserVoice ourselves.
And reviews are not exaggerating:
- 10+ seconds to load a page isn’t rare
- And anything is a multi-step process so it’s the norm to take a minute for any action
- Important features are hidden behind very small buttons without labels
- Onboarding help is limited despite the amount of complexity in UserVoice
- We got multiple errors during our trial
Maybe we tried it on a bad day and it isn’t like that all the time, but it was a disappointing experience.

👋 Feature Upvote: Easy to use and purpose-built
We want Feature Upvote to always be helpful and pleasant to use, not a source of confusion and frustration.
We’re very intentional about the features we add to the software.
We always look for the solution that will create the least friction for you and your customers.
For example, key functionality from Feature Upvote’s moderator dashboard can also be accessed by simply viewing a suggestion.
Compared to UserVoice, Feature Upvote’s platform is clean, intuitive, and focused on one thing: providing product managers with a centralized hub to view, prioritize, and manage their user suggestions.

🔌 Integrations: UserVoice vs Feature Upvote
Feature Upvote | UserVoice | |

Microsoft Teams | Yes | Yes |
Zendesk | Yes | Yes |
Jira | Yes | Premium |
Zapier | Yes | No |
Discord | Yes | No |
Salesforce | No | Premium |
Azure DevOps | No | Premium |
FullStory | No | Add-on |
Gainsight | No | Add-on |
First, most of UserVoice’s integrations are behind their Premium plan — which starts at $1349/month.
Worse, some integrations are only add-ons.
And UserVoice is missing a crucial integration: Zapier.
With Zapier, you can integrate to 5000+ apps, including Salesforce, Azure DevOps, FullStory, and Gainsight.
In contrast, all the integrations of Feature Upvote — including Zapier — are available in the Standard plan at $99/month.
Read the full storyThe Jira integration was a total game-changer for us. I normally have a meeting with the developers where we separate the features and the suggestions from the bug reports. After doing bug reporting manually a few times, we started looking into how we could better streamline the process. And we found the Jira integration. It’s fantastic!

✍️ End users don’t need an account with Feature Update and why it matters
To submit feedback to UserVoice, end users need to create an account. They have to create a password and verify their email address before they can share an idea.
Why does UserVoice do that?
Because it allows to link all suggestions and upvotes to customer and revenue data.
But here’s the problem: you miss a lot of — potentially critical — suggestions and upvotes from users who don’t want to create an account.
The more upvotes, the more accurate your priorities will become.
