Moving from support tickets to public feature requests

tribe29 is the company behind Checkmk, an IT infrastructure monitoring solution for IT admins, IT managers, and DevOps. Checkmk helps you to monitor servers, applications, networks, storage systems, databases, and cloud environments so IT can proactively act in case of issues. It is available as open source (Checkmk Raw) and as a commercial offering including support used by over 3,500 companies around the globe.
The company uses Feature Upvote to manage all feature requests for Checkmk (here’s their board).
Below, Thomas Lippert, Director of Product Management at tribe29 shares his story using Feature Upvote.
What problem were you facing that led you to try Feature Upvote?
Before Feature Upvote, tribe29 received feature requests as tickets in their support portal.
Customers had no way to collaborate on features proposed by others. So it was impossible to recognize how many customers are keen on a particular feature.
It was also hard to say “no” to requests, as there was no external evidence that a particular feature was not of general interest.
Some suggestions also came through tribe29’s forum, so we had multiple input channels to process.
Switching to Feature Upvote allowed tribe29 to consolidate all feature requests in one place, and get a better idea of which feature requests to build.
We can now see clearly which requests are popular. At the moment, our lead request has almost double the votes from the second most popular request.
What do you like most about Feature Upvote?
Thomas and his team like the simplicity of the tool from a customer perspective, but also as an admin. They enjoyed the fast onboarding process and the ability to quickly make changes to their board when needed.
Their users love the tool, too.
User acceptance is great. Our board has received many requests, comments and votes within a short time.
Anything you’d like to add about your experience with Feature Upvote?
While comparing different feature request management software, I had trouble identifying the legal entity, country of operation, and data security processes behind many of them. This is standard information required for the professional operation of a cloud service.
Feature Upvote did shine here, and I was able to get approval quickly from both IT and our data protection officer.
The Feature Upvote team has a rigorous approach to security. We wrote an entire page detailing our security processes. Knowing how we handle and protect data helps product teams like Thomas’s get the green light from their security department without the necessity for additional audits.
Free 30-day trial. All features included. No credit card required.
